Media relations for the Lusatian Lakeland Tourism Association

The Lusatian Lakeland Tourism Association has appointed THIEL PR to support its media relations. Located between Dresden and Berlin, the Lusatian Lakeland is becoming Europe’s largest man-made water landscape — a destination shaped by transformation, active travel and new tourism opportunities.

The region tells a fascinating story: former lignite mining areas have been transformed into a new travel destination that continues to evolve. With more than 20 flooded lakes and navigable canals, the Lusatian Lakeland is developing into one of Germany’s most exciting tourism regions. Today, it is a popular short-break destination for swimming, water sports and cycling.

At the same time, the region offers strong themes for cultural travellers. Former industrial sites and witnesses of the mining era have been given a second life as museums, event venues and landmarks. In this way, the Lusatian Lakeland combines active recreation with industrial heritage, landscape transformation and cultural discovery.

The Lusatian Lakeland Tourism Association is the central tourism umbrella organisation for the region. Its key responsibilities include cross-border tourism development, supra-regional marketing, product development and coordination, sales activities, internal marketing, external representation and the operation of the tourist information centres in Senftenberg and Hoyerswerda.

A central theme of the destination is active recreation in a changing landscape — from former open-cast mining region to recreational landscape. This transformation provides a strong narrative for tourism communications and offers diverse angles for travel, lifestyle, regional and special-interest media.

As part of the collaboration, THIEL PR supports the tourism association with strategic topic planning, proactive media relations and the development of editorially relevant press materials. The aim is to further strengthen the visibility of the Lusatian Lakeland as a distinctive travel destination and to communicate its unique combination of water landscape, active travel, industrial heritage and regional transformation.
